The 7-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox (7DCT) available on certain Sportage and Ceed models has attracted reports of shudder and hesitation at low speeds. Software updates from Kia dealers have addressed some of the reported calibration concerns. Kia's 2.0-litre GDI and some 1.6 GDI petrol engines use direct fuel injection without port injection, which can lead to carbon accumulation on inlet valves over time, causing rough idle and misfires. This is a known characteristic of the combustion technology rather than a manufacturing defect, but it does require periodic attention on higher-mileage examples.
The Sportage is popular as a company car and lease vehicle, and ex-fleet examples can be high mileage at an attractive price. Used Kias with relatively low mileage can show brake disc surface corrosion if the car has been left idle. New Kias come with a seven-year or 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty. This warranty transfers with the vehicle to subsequent owners. A Sportage first registered in 2020 therefore has warranty coverage until 2027, subject to the mileage cap. Confirm remaining warranty with a Kia dealer by providing the VIN. The Sportage has a strong reliability record and Kia regularly performs well in owner satisfaction surveys.
