How do you check a used motorbike's history?
Enter the bike's registration number. The report checks stolen records, finance records supplied by Experian, insurance write-off categories, and every MOT test and mileage reading from DVSA. Free DVLA tools do not show finance, theft or write-offs. A Carhealth check returns the answer in about 60 seconds.
What Matters on a Used Bike
Bikes are stolen, dropped and sold on more easily than cars. These are the records worth seeing first.
Stolen Records
Bikes are easy to lift into a van and sell on. We check stolen records before you hand over any money
Write-Off Category
A dropped bike can be written off for cosmetic damage alone. See any insurance write-off category before you agree a price
Outstanding Finance
Finance records supplied by Experian show whether a lender still owns the bike and could take it back
Mileage and MOT
Every MOT test and mileage reading on record, with drops and long gaps flagged

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about motorbike check on Carhealth
Yes. Any UK-registered motorbike, scooter or moped can be checked from its registration number. The report checks stolen records, outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, mileage and full MOT history, using the same UK records as a car check. Results appear in about 60 seconds.
The frame number (the VIN) is usually stamped on the headstock, where the forks meet the frame, and the engine number is stamped on the engine casing. Both are printed on the V5C logbook. Check they match the logbook before you pay. Numbers that are scratched, ground off or re-stamped are a reason to walk away.
It can be. Bikes are often written off after a drop because replacement panels, levers and paint cost a lot compared with the bike's value, so a Cat N bike may only have had cosmetic damage. Cat S means structural damage, such as the frame or forks, and needs much more care. Either way, ask for repair evidence, have the bike inspected, and expect to pay less and to tell your insurer.
A motorbike needs its first MOT 3 years after registration, then every year. The report shows every MOT on record, with passes, fails, advisories and the mileage at each test, so you can see how the bike has been used.
No. A motorbike check looks at the vehicle's records, not yours. There is no search on your credit file.
