Works on any UK-registered van.
How do you check a used van's history?
Enter the van's registration number. The report checks finance records supplied by Experian, insurance write-off and stolen records, and every MOT test and mileage reading from DVSA. Free DVLA tools do not show finance or write-offs. A Carhealth check returns the answer in about 60 seconds.
What Matters on a Used Van
Vans work hard and change hands often. These are the records that tell you what the seller might not.
Finance and Lease Records
Many vans are bought on HP or leased. We check finance records supplied by Experian, because a lender that still owns the van can take it back
Every Mileage Reading
Vans cover big miles, which makes them a target for clocking. We line up every MOT reading and flag drops and gaps
Write-Offs and Theft
Insurance write-off categories and stolen records, so a repaired or stolen van does not end up on your drive
Keepers and Plate Changes
How many keepers the van has had and any plate changes, which helps you spot an ex-fleet van or a disguised history

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about van check on Carhealth
Yes. Any UK-registered van can be checked from its registration number, including panel vans, pickups and crew cabs. Enter the reg, and the report checks outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, stolen records, mileage and full MOT history, using the same UK records as a car check. Results appear in about 60 seconds.
Look at the number of keepers, the mileage readings at every MOT, and whether any finance or lease agreement is still recorded. Fleet vans often change hands at auction with high miles, so a steady mileage record and a clear finance result matter more than the paint. Ask for service records too: a history check shows what is on record, not how well the van was looked after.
If a van is still on hire purchase or a lease, the finance company owns it until the agreement is settled. A lender can repossess it from the next buyer, even one who paid in good faith. A finance check before you pay tells you whether an agreement is recorded, so you can ask the seller for written proof it has been settled.
Most vans need their first MOT 3 years after registration, then every year. Vans up to 3,000kg take the Class 4 test, the same as a car. Vans from 3,000kg to 3,500kg take the Class 7 test. The report shows every MOT on record, with passes, fails, advisories and the mileage at each test.
No. A van check looks at the vehicle's records, not yours. There is no search on your credit file.
